James Friedman is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Eastpointe, and president of the 21st Century Chaplain’s Network.
James Friedman is the managing police chaplain for the Eastpointe Police Department as well as the managing police chaplain and reserve police officer for the New Baltimore Police Department. Chaplain Friedman also serves as senior chaplain for the Macomb Police Chief’s Association, Saint Clair Shores Police Department, Roseville Police Department, Huntington Woods Public Safety Department, and the Macomb Criminal Justice Training Center along with being a member of the Southeastern Police Chief’s Association. He is also a police commissioner with the Michigan Association of Police Chief’s (MAPC) Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC).
James serves as a program director and instructor for the Macomb Community College Criminal Justice Training Center (Advance and Basic Police Training including the Corrections Officer Academy) teaching programs such as: Autism Awareness and Risk Management, Cultural Awareness and Diversity, Sexual Harassment, Ethics, Understanding the Mental Health and Special Needs Community, Building Community Organization Partnerships, Professional Standards, Interpersonal Communication Skills and De-escalation, and Stress Awareness and Management. He also teaches for the Washtenaw College Correction Officer Academy and is a guest lecturer for Destiny School of Ministries. Chaplain Friedman is also a graduate of the Macomb Police Reserve Academy and Public Service Chaplain Academy.
James is also a proctor for MCOLEs and LCOPAT.
James is also the president and founder of James A. Friedman Training and Consulting, LLC (JAF). James is committed to sharing applicable, interactive, informative, and enjoyable training courses. The motto at (JAF) is, “Awareness is the key.”
James hosts his own television shows entitled, “Let’s Talk about it” with James Friedman and “Pastors Perspective on CMNTv. He also appears on the national television show, “Ask the Pastor” which appears daily on TCT (Total Christian Television).
James Friedman holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Grantham University.
James holds certifications in, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) (Individual, Peer and Group), Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) (Crisis Officer and Instructor), Youth Mental Health First Aid, Adult Mental Health First Aid, Autism Awareness and Risk Management, Suicide Prevention, and Krav Maga Law Enforcement Instructor through Krav Maga Worldwide, Inc. Force Training Division.

Understanding Cultural Awareness and Diversity
Interactive course, engaging and thought provoking training is designed to assist public safety and law enforcement personnel increase their diversity awareness and cultural competencies in relation to: Understanding how individual biases guide daily decision making and behaviors; Identifying unintentional intolerance where it comes from and how it can affect others; Examining the foundation of a personal and professional cultural lens; Creating mental models that are diverse and inclusive; Understanding cultural beliefs, traditions, experience and perceptions of assistance, intervention and authority; Identifying cultural characteristics of public safety and law enforcement; Clarifying the role of cultural competence in customer service and community relations; Building alliances in a multicultural society in order to prevent culture clashes.
Autism Awareness, Recognition, Response and Risk Management
This training program is designed to teach public safety officers, security operatives, chaplains, mental health professionals, teachers/educators, companies and municipalities the fundamentals of autism awareness, recognition and response; predictable contacts & 911 dispatches, perpetrator and victim trends; de-escalation tips, restraint, arrest & incarceration options, dilemmas in interrogation and interview settings; model programs & cross educational opportunities for officers, children and adults who have autism, their families and supporters.
Death Notifications
Law enforcement officers, emergency medical professionals, and chaplains/clergy who may have to deliver that death notification will benefit from this informative and thought provoking seminar.
Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
This one-day seminar will bring a basic but powerful understanding and awareness of sexual harassment in the law enforcement setting. This training will give great insight concerning the various types of sexual harassment, inner and outer departmental. This training also offers simple and applicable solutions of avoiding the challenge of sexual harassment.
Advanced Public Service Chaplain Academy
The Advanced program will provide more advanced skills to existing chaplains, or those members of the clergy or police officers interested in becoming public service chaplains. The program provides attendees with the necessary skills to function within the public service sector.
